School Chess League 2018-19

SCA’s 2018-19 School’s League results were confirmed following the final Tournament of the academic year at Shanghai Centre on 10 August 2019.

Scores were tallied from 4 Tournaments during the Academic Year:

  2. New Year Tournament 2019 at Yew Chung International School of Shanghai – Puxi
  3. Dragonboat Tournament 2019 at Yew Chung International School of Shanghai – Puxi
  4. Summer Tournament 2019 at Shanghai Centre

A total of 27 Schools across Shanghai won points in the league. Points are calculated as follows:

Gold: 5 points

Silver: 3 points

Bronze: 2 points

4th, 5th: 1 point

Medals are won and contribute to school points based purely on results without any preselection of participants for school teams.

Before the final tournament it seemed that championship could only go to 1 of 2 schools: SAS Puxi or SUIS Pudong, which had 19 and 16 points respectively. SHSID had 11 points and were in 4th place, however they managed to win two gold medals and overtook SAS Puxi by 1 point to claim the final Tournament and Championship 1st place.

The most medals were won by SAS Puxi – who collected a total of 6

The best performing schools in Pudong were SUIS PD, YCIS PD and Shanghai Foreign Language School of Pudong.

The schools with the most students participating were SAS Puxi and DCS Pudong, where SCA have been running afterschool chess clubs for many years, and YCIS who also hosted two of the Tournaments.
