The International Schools Online Chess League (ISOCL) Spring Season 2023 kicked off with the first qualifier tournament held on 24 March. The tournament witnessed the participation of 36 international and bilingual schools in China mainland and Hong Kong. 5 new schools joined as well: Wycombe Abbey Nanjing, Shekou International School Shenzhen, German School Beijing, Tungwah Wenzel International School Dongguan, and Beanstalk International Bilingual School Beijing (Shunyi Campus). A new record was set with 236 participants.

After a series of intense and thrilling matches, ISOCL’s partner school Wellington College International Shanghai emerged as the champion of the first qualifier tournament. The team displayed exceptional skills, strategic moves, and a remarkable team effort throughout the tournament.

The runner-up of the tournament was a team from Shekou International School Shenzhen and the third placer was Dehong Chinese International School Shanghai. 

The score of the top 4 players on each school team are added up to a total team score in each Qualifier. The total team score from each Qualifier adds up to determine which school teams qualify for the Final Six.
