The small group classes consist of three levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.
At different stages, students engage in tailored courses, starting from the basics such as piece names, rules, terminology, and defense strategies, progressing to intermediate levels covering chess tactics and put them into practice,strategies,tactical tools, and understanding the opening, middle game, and endgame. The advanced stage focuses on Deep Calculation, Comprehensive Endgames, Planning Ahead & Strategical thinking; Building Opening Repertoire and Analyzing game replays. This progression aims to significantly develop and enhance logical thinking, decision-making skills, strategic thinking, creativity, and more.

The Expert level is a course aimed at preparing participants for international chess federation competitions, cultivating the most competitive chess players. This course is seletive and exclusively open to students at the Advanced 3 and Advanced 2 levels.

SCA students from levels A2 and A3
Shanghai Candidate Master or above
National Grade 1 or above
Criteria for candidates:
Frequent participation in chess tournaments
Intending to participate in FIDE tournaments and aiming at obtaining a FIDE rating
Commitment to regular chess training on their own
3 hours per session
