Julia Alicante (PHL-JuliaA) (1666) – Lucas Granucci (SAS-LucasG) (1552)

Julia Alicante from the Philippines emerged victorious again.

10.Ba6 preparing a trap for a Black’s rook in the corner cxd4 11.exd4 Qe7 12.Bb7 Creating an attack on the rook. Bishop pair works very well together so the rook can only run away to one square Rd8 13.Bc7 +- trapping the rook and later winning an exchange.

Payne Hong (HQ-PayneH) (1313) – Donald Wen  (SUIS-DonaldW) (1550)

18… Qc6 Black improved the position of the queen and set up a trap. White did not see Black’s plan and made a mistake by playing 19.a3? [better was 19.Ne2 after this move, the position was unclear]

19…d4! Discovered attack. The queen and the rook are attacking the pawn on g2 and the pawn is attacking the knight. 20.Ne4 White had to give up a knight [Pawn cannot be captured 20.Qxd4 due to Qxg2#]

20…Bxe4 21.f3 Bd5 22.Qxd4 Bxf3! –+ Beautiful sacrifice of the bishop that opens up the White king and create access. It leads to a quick checkmate.

Kyle Hung (SCIS-KyleH) (1117) – Eva Han (SHSID-EvaH) (1549)

15… dxe4 16.Nxe4 Nxe4 17.Bxe4 After a few exchanges on e4 Black makes a double attack with Qd4+! 18.Kh1 Qxe4 -+
